IT'S BEEN A CRAZY WEEK
The last week or so of my life has been hectic and chaotic with so many things going on in a very short span of time!! Quite a few things have happened that I am ready to share with you all.
Firstly, I HANDED IN MY MASTERS THESIS. For the past year I have been working toward completing this thesis and taking classes for my degree, and now it's all over!! Though I still am not fully confident in the quality of my thesis, I am still incredibly relieved that I finished it! I feel so proud of myself for my hard work and for surviving the ups and downs of the year. Who knows what grade I'll get on my work. All that really matters to me is that it's completed. I feel like I learned so much over the year and the degree will definitely contribute positively to my career aspirations. Woohoo!! All I want to do now is dance around and jump for joy!
Secondly, I officially accepted a PhD Studentship position at a children's hospital through UCD. I could not be more stoked about this role! I will be starting very soon and I am looking forward to conducting research and advancing my education further. My research will revolve around psychological well-being in children with obesity. For those of you who may not know, childhood obesity is becoming a growing problem in both the United States and Ireland. There is a lot of stigma around obesity and research has demonstrated that children with obesity experience negative psychological impacts because of their weight. I love working with children and the well-being of kids and teens is so important to me.
This PhD also means that I will be in Dublin for at least another three years! This may seem crazy to some people, but I'm so stoked about it. I'll probably be broke as hell for a while longer and have no life, but it will probably be worth it in the end!! I've wanted a PhD for as long as I can remember, and it will be an amazing way to contribute to psychology literature and make a clinical impact on kiddos. I will be writing another post of my plans for the PhD and what's next for me in another post.
Thirdly, my blog is growing!! I recently completed an interview for ExpatFocus about my experiences in Ireland, and my blog is now featured on a number of expat websites. I am so exited to continue working on my blog and expanding its reach even further. If anyone would like to read my short little interview, it can be found here . Being asked to do a written interview made me feel like a superstar and I was happy to offer my advice for other people considering moving abroad. I'll be available for autographs at any time now that I'm lowkey famous...(just messing!!)
Finally, I just want to thank everyone who has supported me through my masters and now going into a PhD. I wouldn't be where I am today without my friends, family, supportive professors, and blog readers pushing me along the way!! You all mean so much to me and I am so happy and grateful for your support.
Stay tuned for more posts about my PhD, why I'm choosing to stay in Ireland, and so much more!
