Dublin Barista School | Cafe Corner
Hiya! I'm back again with another review of a coffee shop here in Dublin city, all a part of my search for the best mocha. This time around, I strolled into Dublin Barista School. I discovered this barista school/cafe after doing a Google maps search for coffee.
A little background: Dublin Barista School is located off of Grafton Street, so it's a nice spot to drop by if you're doing some shopping in town. They do barista courses as well as have a small cafe available. To be honest, I'd love to give you more background on their business, but their website won't let me proceed to explore it unless I sign up for a monthly voucher draw as you can't make the pop-up go away.
Okay so now into the coffee bits. Firstly, the cafe was super easy to find. I walked right in and was greeted by a very friendly barista! He was so sweet. They had a simple but perfect selection of coffees available, as well as a small stack of pastries/sweet snacks to choose from. I was excited to try the coffee as they had a number of good reviews.
I ordered my coffee and made my way to the back of the store where they had a seating area to relax and enjoy. It was nice and quiet back there. They had some latte art trophies on display, and you could easily forget that just outside the shop the hustle and bustle of the city was going on. I loved the decor, it was certainly warm and welcoming.
I was by myself in the seating area by myself for quite a while, which was actually kind of nice! I was able to read my book in peace for a while. There was a point though where some guy who worked there rushed in and started putting chairs in place and vacuuming, which made me feel a bit awkward! It definitely tainted the atmosphere just a little bit.
Now, onto the coffee. I thought my mocha was great! Overall I really liked it. It was definitely a great coffee. Here are my scores:
Taste: 7/10 This mocha was pretty darn good. Overall the taste was strong with a nice blend of the coffee and chocolate flavours you'd be looking for. I also appreciated that while the coffee was bold and flavourful, there wasn't too strong of an aftertaste. It was a great coffee!
Price: 9/10 The price of my coffee was €2.50. This is an EXCELLENT price for a mocha in town. When I ordered, the barista asked me if I was a student. This surprised me! I have never been asked that before while ordering a coffee. I think the normal price was €3.00 for a small. The only reason I didn't give this a 10 was because I found the serving to be a bit on the small side, but if you're paying such a cheap price that is to be understood.
Heat: 9/10 Again, near perfect! I really appreciated that you could take a moment to get settled and relax without the mocha getting cold by the time you take that first sip.
Appearance: 9/10 Near perfect once more! My mocha came decorated with a gorgeous swan on top. I appreciated the effort the barista made to glam it up. Though I wasn't surprised because this is a barista school after all. People here are literally taught how to make dope latte art. The only reason I didn't give it a ten is because I have had a swan design on coffees elsewhere and I would have appreciated some originality coming from a place like this!
Some final notes on my experience at Dublin Barista School...overall, this was a great coffee! My muffin was kind of blech, but the coffee was of excellent quality and craft. The atmosphere wasn't exactly bad, but it wasn't great. However, it's definitely a perfect cozy place to settle in and read a book. I also think this is a great spot to get coffee with pals as it has quite a private feel to it. I also really appreciated that they had a discounted price for students. I had never come across this before for coffee in Dublin and I was really impressed by that. It did not go unnoticed.
I would definitely get coffee there again, but probably for takeaway next time!
